O Lord, Cast Down Dejected

O Lord cast down dejected,
    Much anguish You have borne
Upon the cross rejected,
    Abused by scourge and thorn.
Though innocent and bleeding
    You crushed the evil horde
Through intercessive pleading,
    The wayward were restored.

As King You were anointed
    To set Your people free.
Your mission was appointed
    With death Your destiny.
On wings of immolation,
    Your earthly life has flown.
In sight of all creation
    Your mercy was made known.

I come in deep contrition,
    With humble heart bowed down
To seek my soul's remission,
And share Your cross and crown.
Though torn by grief and sorrow,
I long to see Your face,
And from Your sources borrow
    The fullness of Your grace.
