The Settling Sea

I have answered the call of a chantey song
To pack and be off to sea.
In this rugged realm where the hardy belong,
Is where I desire to be.

Let me cheer to the charms of an old salt's tale,
And thrill to a seaman's lore,
To whisk with the wind on a rigger full sail
Far off to a distant shore.

Let me walk on the deck with a swaying pace,
And stare at the wind filled sky
To ponder my life in this mountain of space
By way of a sea man's eye.

All the cares of this life since the world began
    Bewilder the frames of thought.
The sea renders peace to the spirit of man,
And mends what the cares have wrought.

So I'm off to the sea with the rising tide,
To part with a fond farewell.
I shall not return for I'll ever abide
In peace where the flood tides swell.
